The man behind Information Mapping

Career overview

As you read on the introductory page, Information Mapping is the brainchild of Robert Horn, a world-renowned researcher, educator and entrepreneur. His career has incorporated many research and development projects at universities, research centres and businesses.

Involvement with Information Mapping

In 1965, Horn created a way of analysing any complex subject matter. This technique became the basis for Information Mapping, his most widely known accomplishment. In 1967, Horn founded the company that is now known as Information Mapping Inc. He served as CEO of the company for 15 years and continues to serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors. Over four decades later, Information Mapping Inc and its global partner network have brought the method to hundreds of thousands of individuals in over 30 countries.

Current roles

Currently, Horn serves as

  • a visiting scholar at Stanford University's 'Center for the Study of Language and Information'
  • President and Founder of MacroVU, a leader in visual language, and
  • President of the 'Meridian International Institute on Governance, Leadership, Learning and the Future', a policy think-tank.

Current research interests

Horn continues his research with a special interest in policy communication, social learning and knowledge management. For the past few years, he has been leading a project exploring the possibilities for using highly visual, cognitive maps to aid in the policy-making process, especially in science and security matters.
